Happy belated Beltane! It’s deliciously warm here in the Hudson Valley, and I’ve been planting flowers, feeling the primal joy of my beloved Earth and Her creatures that spring is finally here. As I was Reiki-ing the plants, I saw 3-D columns of vibrant, pastel colored light. Each column was a different color. I was in one column, and the plant was in another. Though we were contained in One light, we lived in separate parts of the Whole. As I Reiki’ed the plant(s) the columns didn’t merge, but plant and I landed in what I call the conscious reality that unifies all life.
Take a moment and look around you; unifying everything you see is a conscious reality with its own intelligence. Intellectually I know this, most of you reading this piece know this, but to experience and re-experience it again and again, ever strengthens our umbilical chord to Life. An umbilical chord, in its truest sense, is a lifeline. The mystical experience is the lifeline of the conscious woman's life.
The great mystery is that we are all interconnected; the mystical experience is the tangible experience of this interconnection. Reiki-ing my plants today, I realized how far away I’d gotten from this beautiful, soothing, intensely real, and loving consciousness; a loving consciousness that is freely given and always there for me. Like anyone who’s on an evolutionary path, I know exactly how I get so far away. Real World Shit – RWS ™ for short, and yes I’ve trademarked it. RWS includes but is not limited to — work, divorce, bills, a man, a woman, a pathological liar trying to take a friend out, a client, the death of a loved one, open heart surgery, money, taxes, etc. When dealing with RWS you need RWS tools and RWS tools demand ego. Ego is the voice of the judgment call. Life is a judgment call; you weight the facts, the evidence, and you make a decision. That decision will either work for, or against you, depending on the health of your ego.
In our culture, ego serves ego rather than Life Force/Nature. Patriarchy and the destruction of the planet and humanity is the result. This is why ego has such a deservedly bad rap because ego serving ego is all about ego serving ego’s creations, not Nature/Life Force. Ergo, the entire preoccupation with getting rid of ego, because if we get rid of ego all that stuff will stop; we’ll all be spiritual, and if we’re all more spiritual, we won’t have these problems. Bull balls.
Ego is meant to serve the needs of the soul. Ego says, “Yes, you’re allowed.” Ego says, “Yes, take care of yourself first.” Setting boundary, saying no, making time for you, refusing to be abused, standing strong in the face of opposition ‑ these are all ego actions. Someone once said to me, “but I’m doing it for my soul.” To which I replied, “Yes, you are doing it for your soul. And you have enough self-esteem to think you’re good enough to take actions for your soul. That, my darling, is ego. Ego is about how highly you think of yourself."
The evolutionary path is not about getting rid of ego; it’s about right use of ego. In the craft as I teach and practice it, my soul is the Goddess within. The purpose of my ego is to serve Her; to create a world for Her. I am a psychic, a writer, a healer, and a counselor. These are the sacred gifts with which I was born, which I've been honing for the last 30 years and will no doubt continue to hone for the next 30. That I think and know I’m remarkably good at helping people is ego. I couldn’t very well advertise my services and think I sucked at them. Why would I even attempt to help anyone if I thought I sucked at it?
My ego then is serving my gifts, by helping me get them out into the world. In the tradition of witchcraft that I practice, the God is the right arm of the law; the only law is love and the Goddess is love. The God serves the Goddess, not as slave but as complement. Theirs is a sacred marriage; an ever evolving partnership. I think of the God as my healthy ego. He helps me get what I was born to do (that would be my Goddess given talents) out into the world. He is also one of my greatest fans! Before each and every session begins, I ask the Divine Beings who work with me, to use me as a channel to pass on the information that will be of the most benefit to my client. I also ask to speak in a way so my client can truly hear me. You see the balance here? I'm owning my power/abilities/talents, and at the same time humbly hearing the right and perfect way to use them. I have no desire to impose my will and my ways on another person and by asking to be used as a channel for information for the client's deepest and highest good, I don't.
The last thing the tribe of women needs is more humility. They need more ego. I know that’s antithetical to almost every spiritual path, in existence, but I hold it true as the nose on face. I think women need more understanding of their seasons, their weather, and their soil. I think women need to spend more time about thinking what's right about them, instead of concentrating on all the reasons they're wrong. They need less of seeing another’s point of view, more understanding of their own, and how to communicate it.
I am wishing you all a juicy healthy ego, that serves your wild and wondrous visions within.
